S.S.V. Publishing came into being as a result of our experiences with many of the large 'established' publishing houses. They are often 'bound up' and lost amongst their own traditional and laborious publishing setups in which the industry has become enmeshed . We know - we've been there! And when you finally do get a reply from someone - they tell you that they only accept submissions through an agent!
So you wander through the minefield of 'Agents' and all sorts of sundry scoundrels - many of whom will prey on your desire to see your work in print. Months and months of submitting to agents - waiting - submitting - waiting - phoning - waiting and then waiting some more. Only to hear nothing at all in most cases.
This is not at all conducive to good writing - happy authors - or an industry that 'flows' from the conception of the original work to the final printed volume. So, we thought we'd try another way. Especially as what we Christians are all writing about is supposedly intended to glorify God, or at least hopefully to bring sinners to a saving knowledge of Jesus!
As we are all aware - the world is changing fast, along with established ways of doing things. In terms of getting a book in front of a reader, [although 'new' is not always necessarily better], these days the 'traditional' route is not always in the best interests of the originators of a piece of literary work.
Take the publishing world. The writer conceives the idea, agonises over its birthing and finally spends months and months in putting it all together into the cohesive finished work.
Under the present set up, you are then expected to spend further months and months waiting to see if an agent feels your work has merit. Or if it is what the publisher is currently looking for. Then, and only if you are very lucky indeed, you may be informed that a publisher who happens to have access to printing and distribution services will publish your book taking up to 98% of your profit - THAT IS UTTERLY OUTRAGEOUS!
Established 'Publishers' frown upon 'self published' authors - "how dare they think that they can compete"? - yet publishing history is FULL of stories of highly succesful self published authors.
THEY SOLD MILLIONS OF BOOKS!
